At Grupo Academia Internacional, we often advise parents with their extracurricular activities selection; just like our academic offer, our electives and clubs are based on STEAM methodology. Whichever activities they choose, will help children boost their soft skills and even make their college application shine. Many high schools, including ours, offer a variety of extracurricular activities worth exploring that will provide every student an advantage in life.

Extracurricular Activities Help High School Students Prepare for College and Beyond

Extracurricular activities are an essential part of a well-rounded education. They enable students to apply academic skills in a real-world context. Moreover, they allow students to reinforce the lessons learned in the classroom.

If you have a teenager, know that extracurricular activities are critical for college admissions. Many colleges and universities value extracurricular activities because they contribute to developing the "whole student."

However, extracurricular activities benefit all students, regardless of their plans after high school. Employers nowadays prefer to hire well-rounded job candidates. In fact, extracurricular activities are great additions to that first resume.

Extracurricular Activities for Students at AIB and AID

As mentioned above, extracurricular activities help students show off their interests and personalities. These activities demonstrate their ability to contribute, stick to their commitments, and manage their time and priorities. No matter what activity they choose, they all go around:

Science - Chemistry in the Kitchen

Chemistry is a science that is present in daily life, even if we have not noticed it. Using heat or cold, and cutting food into different shapes changes the composition of foods. Simply slicing an apple sets off chemical reactions that change the color of the apple's flesh. Another example of chemistry in the kitchen is the chemical reaction obtained by turning sugar into syrup.

AIB's Chemistry in the Kitchen is one of our campus's top-notch activities; all our students love it!

Technology - Coding and Robotics

From coding and online safety to building robots, technology classes can aid kids in becoming tech-savvy. Starting with coding classes, which help develop children with a set of problem-solving, career, and communication skills. Besides organization and perseverance, is another set of valuable soft skills that programming brings to the table. 

At AID, Academia Internacional David, our Programming classes prepare students for the future, get them ahead in school, or support and enhance their current learning.

Followed by our Robotics classes, an exciting and hands-on activity to learn STEM concepts by allowing them to build robots independently. Kids learn programming, problem-solving, decision-making, and more by building robots. 

At AIB, Academia Internacional Boquete, our Robotics classes provide students with tools to design, create, and run robots.

The Arts - Ballet, Piano, Guitar, Artistic Gymnastics and Karate

Ballet, piano, guitar, and artistic gymnastics are many arts-related extracurricular activities. These electives and clubs are perfect for students who are passionate about the arts and want to spend more time honing their craft. They are also an excellent complement to the arts education in the regular school curriculum.

• Artistic Gymnastics: Every Thursday at 2:30 pm.

Athletics - Soccer, Basketball, Swimming, and Volleyball

Sports might be the most common extracurricular activity that springs to mind. Almost all high schools offer athletic programs, take a look at our athletic programs.

AIB - Boquete:

• Soccer: Mondays and Tuesdays at 2:30 pm.

• Basketball: Wednesday and Fridays at 2:30 pm.

AID - David:

• Soccer: Wednesdays and Fridays at 2:30 pm.

• Basketball: Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2:30 pm.

• Swimming: Thursdays at 2:30 pm. and Saturdays at 9:00 am.

• Volleyball: Every Wednesday at 2:30 pm.

Educational and Academic Clubs

Academic organizations concentrate on specialized areas of study or achievement. Examples include Math Club, Science Club, and Debate Team.

Student Government

Our high school's Student Government Association is an excellent way to develop leadership skills and make an impact. Student councils advocate for students' interests. 

They also organize dances, spirit weeks, community service, and fundraising events. Students can run for various offices or volunteer.
